一直以来，音乐、美术这样的艺术类课目在国内学生的课程表里都只是副课而已，也大多没有受到学校和家长的重视，就算是有心的家庭让孩子从小学习乐器或是绘画，也仅仅只是为了在升学时握有一点筹码。但在美国，艺术课从门类到课时都体现出了全社会对艺术教育的高度重视，这也让几乎每一个美国高中生在毕业时都获得了宝贵的艺术情感和艺术素养的熏陶。
