尽管从小我就听说美国政治方面与国内有着极大的不同，这一点不仅仅体现在美国政府的运作方式中，更在众议院、参议院议员选举上的民主深深地扎入在人们的心里 。这些议员的选举是面对选民的直选，因此候选人往往会到各选区直接在选民中拉选票；也就是因为这样我才能有幸旁观由加州尔湾华裔青少年组织“华裔未来领袖孵化器”的策划和主导下，上周六（5月5日）在尔湾中文学校举办由华裔青少年主持的45选区国会众议员候选人辩论会。这又是我在国内完全没有接触过的政治活动，在国内我唯一能够通过自己的能力接近政治活动就是在初一的时候有幸能被选为团市委组织的“青少年智囊团”的一员体验了一下在国内如何了解政治，但在国内你并不能实实在在地影响到任何政府决策，最多也只是对于一些政策提出的背景能有所了解，而在这里最大的不同就是你确确实实能够听到各个有不同从政背景或仅有服务民众热情侯选人的演讲甚至能与他们进行一对一的提问，并能听取不同候选人就同一问题的辩论。

在我们刚刚进入到会场时，当时会场已经人满为患了，不同肤色的人们主要是亚裔把会场填得满满的。虽然这个会场不大但也能有超过一百人在场，甚至有一些找不到座位的人们选择安静地站在一边，也认真地听着活动的进程。

这次的活动是一个专门面对华裔社区选民的，而作为此次活动的策划者则是我同年龄的一批高中生，他们希望帮助选民了解所在选区各候选人的政见，同时也是让候选人了解亚裔社区关切的议题，赢得选民好感的大好机会。

FCLA特别欢迎华裔社区家长和孩子们来辩论会现场，不但可以与候选人面对面交流，而且参加活动的小义工还可以获得社区服务的小时数。就此而言国内在政治方面，基层的百姓能接触到的实在是少之又少·，更别说就我们这些青少年啦！在这里一位华裔社区资深青年义工Oliver表示：他第一次接触政治，就是在高中时期TOC做助选义工，而在之前完全没有接触过政治。他曾帮助曾经的加州议员，现任尔湾市长华格纳扫街发传单。随后对政治产生了浓厚的兴趣，现在大学里的专业就是政治学，可以说参加助选的义工经历对Oliver的大学志愿产生了重大影响。
